Today in History - August 29th. 1935 - Astrid of Sweden, Queen Consort of Belgium

On August 29th. 1935, Astrid of Sweden died in Küssnacht am Rigi (Switzerland)
by a car accident.

Astrid was born on November 17th. 1905 in Stockholm (Sweden).
Her parents were Prince Carl, Duke of Västergötland, and 
Princess Ingeborg of Denmark.

Astrid married Prince Leopold of Belgium. In 1934 she became 
Queen Consort of Belgium.Her grandson, King Philippe is the 
current King of the Belgians.

She also is the grandmother of Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg 
and the aunt of 
King Harald of Norway.

Today the crypt in Laeken (near Brussels) is open for public.
