About the Duke of Windsor




Edward was born on June 23rd. 1894 during the reign of his
great-grandmother Queen Victoria. He was the eldest son of the
later King George V and Queen Mary.

On July 13th. 1911 Edward was invested as the Prince of Wales
during a ceremony at Caernarvon Castle.

In 1914 World War I broke out and Prince Edward joined the
Grenadier Guards.

In the 1920"s Prince Edward represented his father, King George V,
at home and abroad for many occasions.

On January 20th. 1936 King George V of England died and
Prince Edward became King.

In October 1936 it became clear that King Edward VII wanted to marry
Wallis Simpson.

Wallis Simpson was twice divorced. On December 11th. 1936
King Edward VII abdicated so that he could marry his big love.

On March 8th. 1937 the title Duke of Windsor was created for the
former King Edward VII.

On June 3rd. 1937 the Duke of Windsor married Wallis Simpson.
No member of Edward 's family attended the wedding.

On May 28th. 1972 the Duke of Windsor died.
